Satyrus: sound diffusion

backtostories

The right location

When we talk about sound diffusion we may have a lot of meanings. Today, we would like to address this issue by telling you about our adventure with Gilberto in Satyrus.

Framed by the beauty of Villa Borghese stands the Satyrus, a temporary premium bar, whichย every year keeps us company from May to October with its music festivals. A terrace overlooking the entrance of the National Gallery of Modern Art hosting many artists. From live music to piano bar, from theater to literary reviews, it all comesย with quality aperitifs and tasty dinners.

A large kiosk with bar is the main focus of the place. On the front there is a large open space that overlooks the National Gallery and framing the stage. Continuing along the sides we find two large circular areas enriched in the center by stone fountains.ย The design of the installation of our systems was not simple either for the place or for the context, but here at AudioFactory, we love the challenges that enable us to think “out of the box”.

The first rule to be respected for those operating in this field is the noise pollution regulation. Whether it is an outdoor or indoor location, it is essential to have respect for the houses surrounding the place of interest in order to preserve the activity itself.

“The push that made us choose Audiofactory is competence, attention to detail and the human component.”

Sound diffusion and creative integration

Going into the substance of the matter we can divide the project into three areas:

  1. Kiosk
  2. Main stage
  3. Side squares

Starting from the kiosk we created a central sound front with the help of four speakers of the series “Design“, the D04.ย A compact minispeaker capable of giving intelligibility and adequate power to be exploited even in the quietest moments of the day.
Emphasis was then placed on the focus of the venue, the main scene. Here, in front of the kiosk, we find the stage that would host the artists on which we installed two subwoofers of the line “LIVE“, the L18S, two speakers L12 and two other L10 as side reinforcement, this to ensure an adequate sound impact that could enhance the performances of the artists.

Afterwards the area of interest was around the side fountains, two particular points and not easy to approach because of the circular shape. Here immediately we thought of a sound diffusion with the aim of enveloping the audience but without being too intrusive. For this reason we placed six minispeakers D04 per side, this choice has given space to the creation of an environment with a decay of the propagation content also exploiting the height from the ground and the presence of the public.

The final result was to create a wide and balanced soundscape with special attention to the stage.
All of this was made possible through the commitment and support of the resident technicians.ย Having trained personnel who know the instrumentation is of fundamental importance for the success of an installation: we benefit from it as producers, it benefits the client but especially the end user, our beloved audience.
